Wonderland is an engaging drama film and there's plenty to enjoy from such a film. Wonderland is for me, an intense film that shows the downfall of one of the most famed porn actors at the height of his lowest point. That is taking the most famous name in porn’s heyday mixed up with hardcore drug adicts, a home invasion robbery of one of LA’s most notorious club owners and gangsters, and the brutal murder of four (almost five) people.But it all really happened in some form or another, though no one was ever convicted of these deaths at a scene commonly referred to as being more gruesome than the Tate-LaBianca crime scenes.James Cox directed Wonderland with attempted panache, much of which feels showy and dated, but the cast, led by Val Kilmer as John Holmes keeps this flick from sinking.Not a perfect telling of this story (would be in a better director’s hands), however this is a very underrated movie with a crazy cast, great performances and soundtrack, and some really cool Rashomon style devices, kinetic editing, and grimy, swooping cinematography. While navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future. They're lonely Londoners. The cast is fantastic and I enjoyed Val Kilmer more here than I did in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, plus Kate Bosworth is really quite good, too. Miranda also has a hard decision to make - will she reveal her true feelings towards Tom before it is too late? A film whose effects are as hard to wash away as blood. A story of two generations of two families colliding, connecting, sometimes at cross purposes as they navigate their way around the maze of love, sex, money and politics.
